The Brief
The Grammar School at Leeds (GSAL) selected FG Library & Learning to consult, design and install their new library.
The school required a calm yet stimulating library with suitable spaces for both collaborative and individual study, and engaging teaching areas. GSAL outlined the need for flexible shelving enabling them to reconfigure the library for special events such as author visits.
The school was looking to create a library where 1:1 devices coexist with books whilst reflecting on and connecting with the rich heritage of its two founding schools, Leeds Grammar School and Leeds Girls’ High School.
This case study outlines the successful transformation of the Lawson Library at The Grammar School at Leeds into a sophisticated, inclusive, and technologically advanced space that caters to a diverse range of needs.
The Solution
The library is one the busiest places in school and they could not imagine closing it during term time. As a result, there was about six months from design planning in March 2023 to opening the library refurbished in September.
FG Library & Learning created a design based on the school’s priorities which included modern, stylish, comfortable and durable furniture that was different to traditional classroom furniture.
Students and staff alike have really appreciated the colour range with the splashes of yellow during the dark winter months. The GSAL community can now look forward to the warmer months with natural light coming into the space through the floor to ceiling windows.
